PANDA Can Help Project

PANDA

Overview

Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia (PANDA) is a national not-for-profit organisation. It is dedicated to helping women, men and families affected by depression and anxiety during pregnancy and the first year of parenthood. Ethnolink is proud to have worked with PANDA on their exciting project, PANDA Can Help. Learn more about our rewarding partnership with PANDA below.

Challenge

Mental health can be a sensitive topic, and difficult to broach in many cultures. Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia (PANDA) were aware that various cultures may have taboos around mental health issues. They were concerned about how to approach sharing their resources with members of different cultures in a way that was helpful and informative, but also respectful of cultural values.

Solution

Ethnolink provided PANDA with valuable community checking services. Our community checking services distributed our client’s (PANDA’s) resources to members of their intended audiences. We produced a report for PANDA based on the results. The feedback was largely positive, but some issues were flagged and responded to accordingly.

For example, the Burmese community checker noted that literacy within the community is low, and that video content may be more helpful. The community checker for Chinese (Simplified) also suggested more personal methods of distributing the resource due to the sensitive nature of the issue.
